#GIA60 Campaign - (III) Case Study - WIC Claim (Scenario 2)
  • On 24 April 2023, at around 5.30pm, Mohamad Fairuz Bin Mohamad, a Management Executive with the Urban Redevelopment Authority, was working from home when an unexpected accident occurred. While moving within the hall of his residence, he slipped and fell, sustaining a serious injury.
  • At first, he remained at home, hoping the pain would subside. However, as his condition worsened, an ambulance was called later that night at about 9.30pm, and he was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for further treatment.
  • Medical examinations revealed multiple fractures to his left femur. On 3 May 2023, he underwent surgery, where nine screws and a metal plate were implanted to stabilise the injury.
  • He was discharged on 6 May 2023 but required a prolonged period of recovery and rehabilitation. He was granted hospitalisation leave until 21 September 2023, totalling 104 days of medical leave, including MC from 25 April onwards.
  • This case highlights that injuries can occur even during work-from-home arrangements. Through support under the Work Injury Compensation Act (WICA), the employee was able to focus on his recovery with assurance that his medical treatment and extended leave were duly supported throughout the entire period.
